Interventional radiology uses real-time imaging to guide instruments through tiny incisions to diagnose and treat disease — often without the need for open surgery. MMRA was the first radiology group in our five-county region to offer these procedures.
Thoracentesis and paracentesis are minimally invasive procedures that drain excess fluid from around the lungs or abdomen. Using image guidance, a thin needle or catheter is placed through the skin to safely remove the fluid buildup, relieving discomfort and helping diagnose the underlying cause.
A biopsy collects a small tissue sample through the skin using a thin needle, so it can be examined for disease. By guiding the needle with live imaging, our radiologists reach the exact target with pinpoint accuracy — no open surgery required.
